Announcement from the Australian Youth Forum:
youTHINK: Your voice to government ... be part of the conversation
A big youth event -- youTHINK -- will be held on 20 February 2009, and registrations for the event, and three new website discussion boards, are now open. youTHINK is the inaugural event of the Australian Youth Forum (AYF), the Australian Government's formal communication channel with young people, and all people aged 15-24 are invited to take part.youTHINK will be held simultaneously in 10 locations around the country, and will focus on two topics:
1. violence and safety
2. contributing to our democracy
For more information, and to register for youTHINK, visit the AYF website at http://www.youth.gov.au/ayf
If you are unable to attend on 20 February, but still want to have a say, then head to the website, where online discussion boards are now open on the forum topics, and where you can find information on how you can hold your own forum and feed the outcomes through to the AYF, at http://www.youth.gov.au/ayf
There is also a new discussion board on human rights where you can contribute your thoughts on the issues.
Australia's Minister for Youth, Kate Ellis, said in a Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations media release alert (23 January 2009):
"Using technology, we are taking the government to young Australians so they can play an active role in the decisions that affect them directly...
"This is a stark contrast to the former Government which abolished the Youth portfolio and limited its youth engagement to meetings just two meetings a year of 45 hand-picked participants in Canberra.
"The Rudd Government has invested $8 million to establish the Australian Youth Forum to give young Australians the chance to express their ideas and opinions direct to Government.
"I encourage as many people as possible to get involved in youTHINK to make their voice heard".

3. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE YOUR NEWS
Have you got news you would like to distribute to thousands of people?
This newsletter, Youth Field Xpress, published by the Australian Clearinghouse for Youth Studies, resumes its normal distribution in two weeks:
Youth Field Xpress welcomes news contributions from subscribers, though we cannot guarantee to publish all submissions. The newsletter contains short snippets of news items only (200 words maximum). YFX does not include job adverts nor does it send out any attachments (Instead, use the email discussion list, AYIN -- details about AYIN are given below).
News items about changes at major youth organisations and new resources or initiatives are welcomed.
The newsletter serves a national audience and items should be of more than local interest.
Subjects can vary from youth research to youth work, from theory to practice.
Calls for papers and conference news is also welcomed.
The editor reserves the right not to include items, and to rewrite items to suit this clearinghouse's "house style".
News items should be sent to: information@acys.utas.edu.au
4. DEADLINES FOR YOUR NEWS CONTRIBUTIONS
Contributions for consideration should arrive well before the 10th of each month.
The next edition of YFX is due mid-February 2009, so send in your news -- before 10 February 2009 -- to: information@acys.utas.edu.au
5. ABOUT THE AYIN EMAIL DISCUSSION LIST
